Is BRLV a Fund, ETF or Stock? Yield and FGC

Independent guide to non-USD stablecoins and how corporate treasuries evaluate and use them.

BRLV, the real-pegged stablecoin issued by Crown, is sometimes confused with an investment fund or a listed financial product. This page clarifies what BRLV is and is not, based on Crown’s official disclosures.

Does BRLV pay yield or interest?

No. 1 BRLV is always worth R$ 1.00, and a BRLV balance carries no interest, yield or return. What exists is Crown’s Rewards Program, funded by the return generated by the reserve itself (Brazilian federal government bonds), net of a management fee. It is a loyalty benefit, not a return paid on the token.

Is BRLV11 or RBRL11 the same thing as Crown’s BRLV?

No. BRLV11 and RBRL11 are not Crown products. BRLV has no exchange-listed ticker, no fluctuating quote price, and pays no per-share amount: 1 BRLV is always worth exactly R$ 1.00, fixed, because it is a virtual asset (stablecoin) issued directly by Crown, not a listed fund share. Any information describing a ‘BRLV11’ with a quote price, dividend yield or monthly per-share payment does not refer to Crown’s official product.

Is BRLV an investment fund or a listed security?

No. BRLV is not a fund share and is not a security. It is a virtual asset under Brazil’s Lei nº 14.478/2022, issued directly by Crown. The authority responsible for regulating and supervising this activity is the Central Bank of Brazil, not Brazil’s securities regulator (CVM).

Is a BRLV balance covered by Brazil’s deposit insurance (FGC)?

No. Crown is not a bank, BRLV is not a bank deposit, and a BRLV balance is not covered by Brazil’s Fundo Garantidor de Créditos (FGC). Holder protection instead comes from a different mechanism: reserves are 100% Brazilian federal government bonds, held in a bankruptcy-remote legal structure, segregated from Crown’s own balance sheet and pledged to holders through an independent collateral agent.

How does the Rewards Program work if BRLV itself pays no yield?

A qualified client holding BRLV accumulates points every business day, continuously and in proportion to balance and holding time, without needing to redeem or renew the position. Points are funded by the return generated by the Brazilian Treasury bonds (Tesouro Selic) backing the reserve, net of the structure’s management fee, and can be redeemed for reais, BRLV or partner products.

Is selling Rewards Program points taxable in Brazil?

Selling the Rewards token for more than its acquisition cost (always R$ 0.00) can trigger capital gains tax in Brazil. The client alone is responsible for calculating, declaring and paying any taxes owed on BRLV and Rewards Program activity; Crown does not provide tax, legal or financial advice.

What keeps 1 BRLV pegged to R$ 1.00?

Four elements combine to hold the peg: full backing in Brazilian federal government bonds, with overcollateralization (the collateralization ratio never falls below 100%); direct redemption with Crown and market arbitrage, which corrects the price back to R$ 1.00 if the token trades below that on a secondary market; daily reserve verification by an independent third party, published on a transparency page; and asset segregation with fiduciary assignment of the reserves in favor of token holders.
